Brazing & Soldering Filler Metals

Image 1

Brazing and soldering use heat and filler metals to join parts made from similar and dissimilar metals. They do not melt the base material on the parts like welding. Soldering is performed at temperatures up to 840°F, and brazing is performed at temperatures above 840°F. Brazing alloys and solders provide filler metal for making joints in brazing or soldering applications. Brazing flux and soldering flux prevent joints from oxidizing during brazing or soldering to help ensure the brazing alloy or solder can properly wet and bond to the joint.
