Paint and coating applicators vary depending on the substrate being covered. Paint brushes are dipped into liquid paints and coatings and applied to a surface to distribute the coatings evenly. Roller covers are attached to frames and dipped into paint trays to absorb the paint. Rollers are run across a flat surface to transfer and adhere the paint. Other applicators include paint edgers and coating squeegees. Many of these elements also are sold in combination kits. Sponges, cloths, and paint pads cover smaller areas like trim work and provide textured appearances. Electric paint sprayers propel paints and coatings at high pressure to cover large areas evenly. These sprayers can also direct a thin stream to coat intricate surfaces like grillwork where other tools will not reach.
