Resistance testers send voltage pulses through electrical parts and equipment and measure the corresponding resistance to find insulation deterioration, leaks, and shorts. Megohmmeters are portable instruments that use insulated test leads to test cables, wires, transformers, generators, switchgear, and motors for insulation deterioration and leaks. Milli/Micro ohmmeters detect electrical resistance below a single ohm. Earth ground resistance testers generate electrical currents to determine if the soil is a suitable grounding source. Clamp-on earth ground resistance testers use jaws that fasten around above-ground conductors to measure the soil’s resistance to electricity. These instruments find suitable areas to ground electrical systems. Insulation breakdown testers measure the dielectric strength of cooking appliances, dental and medical equipment, and three-phase electrical equipment to find insulation leakage.
