Wireways are troughs with hinged or removable covers for routing and protecting electric wire and cable in permanent, whole-facility wiring installations. Wire and cable are laid into or fed through the wireway after the wireway has been installed as a complete system. Wireways protect conductors by preventing kinks and damage from elements like dust or water. They route electrical wiring, electrical feeders, branch circuits, and other groups of conductors. Wireways are commonly used for incoming cable runs and feeder circuits from switchboards to power and lighting panels, distributing power in industrial plants, and ganging equipment. Indoor wireways install in enclosed spaces. Dust-tight wireways install in industrial, manufacturing, and machining indoor applications where dust is a concern. Corrosion-resistant washdown wireways install in food and beverage applications and nonhazardous chemical processing applications where corrosion and exposure to water is prevalent.
